M shpee waterways Commission December 9,2009 Meeting Minutes The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ken Bates at 9:0 AM in Meeting Room , Mashpee Town Hall Present :den Bates, Tim Leedham, William Taylor, Jerry Daly, Steve Pinard Absent: Perry Ellis Others present: Rick York, Shellfish Constable, Al wiekel Motion to approve the November 12, 2009, fleeting Minutes as corrected at the meeting by Rick York was made by Tiny Leedharn, 2 na by Gerry Daly,, unanimou l approved. y pp Iden Bates reported that the Personnel Committee had met with and interviewed Al wiekel, resident of 1 lashpee, for the open position on the Waterways Commission. The Committee recommended that Mr Wrekel be approved to fill this opening. motion to recommend the appointment of Mr wiekel to the open position of the Waterways Commission was made by William Taylor, 2 d by Tim Leedharn, and unanimously approved. The Burd of Selectmen will be notified of thi �aetion and asked to approve. Committee Reports: Harbormaster Report: No report as Mr Perry.Ellis was unable to attend the muting Shellfish R�eort: Rick York, Shellfish Constable reported the p ter Sbellfishing season opened December 1. This season, the town switched fromY ster trays to oyster beds. Shellfish and Harbormaster personnel assisted people needing help p g p harvesting the oysters. Approximdtely the same number of people began this season a1 n the past, however the number of new shellfish permits required for harvesting had � g increased. Expanded seeding took place this year with more than I million seed. Because oyster heck can now be used for seeding, the program can be expanded. Mr York will be seeking additional funds for more oyster seed for next year. Pponest Bay: Tiny Needham was not on the water the past month and reported that not much activity had been noted. Mr Bates reported that he had attended a "Spit Review Meeting" during which a presentation was made by the "Save The Bay" organization. Maintenance Dredging: Ken Bates reported that the County Dredge asked approval of their desire to conduct a dredge project in Barnstable before setting p u and conducting the dredge project for the outside channel of Popponesset Bay scheduled for 11/20. The request was granted and it was anticipated that the I ash ee dredge project for the outside channel of Popponesset Bay will start this week. . Dredge Date/State: Ken Bates reported that a follow up meeting with State officials had been scheduled for next week. Participants are anticipating that more progress will be made towards the objective of a reversal of the States earlier ruling , which narrower} dredge date windows as previously established for maintenance dredge projects for the entire State but more importantly for Cape Cod and the Islands.
