i
how to approach the problem since it is in Barnstable waters. Jing Hanks stated he would talk to
Wayne Jaedtke and John Jacobson, who is in charge ofermittin for Barnstable to see wha
 t can
he done. Consideration is being given to dredging the pond to make a deeper water body that
would remove the nutrient rich sediment and provide natural attenuation of nutrients. It may be
more effective than the notion of deepening the present abandoned cranberry bogs to accomplish
the same objective.
4. The selectmen have requested a dredging status update on 22 May, and
,liar presented a set of draft slides that would explain the situation. The commission discussed
the slides and offered suggested changes to improve it. The update will explain that we meed to
update the maintenance dredging permits (funded at Town Fleeting , and will outline 4 scenarios
for improvement dredging the Mashpee River. One scenario is to deposit the material at the
transfer station, and Jim will request authorization to pay for analyzing sediment samples for
resistivity as required for upland disposal in a land fill. f
The other three scenarios are to keep the material on the river by sidecasting, building marsh
islands. or restoring marsh front. Authorization to expend funds to do some modeling runs will
be requested to assess the impact on water quality by each scenario.
Maintenance Dredging—Jim reported that we would be going into executive session to discuss
the draft RFP for renewing the Waquoit Bay and Popponesset Bay dredging permits.
