Rick also.questioned the.statement hey heard-that.there-were no currents there,,but Jing
stated that what they are doing is analyzing the currents in the area so they can predict
where the material will.spread and how far it will move. Also, any material.dumped there
must be compatible in terns of sediment characteristics, including contamination.
Jinn Hanks Mated that he had.to stop.working on this aspect of the project.to-build..a.file of
contract performance information for Joyce Mason to use in her contract negotiations, with
Woods Hole Group.
He then described a product called Penna-LOC plastic sheet pile. The idea mould be to use
this product to build a large circular pond(say 20 acnes or more) out in the bay somewhere.
It would look like a large-aboveground swimming pool- We could then go through cycles o
"fill it with slurry, let it settle, then drain it"until we got the material up above the mean
high water level. The Idea would be-to get the material high enough so that you could
vegetate it,and let it compact over time until the material is at or near enough the high water
level to become marsh. As.for the plastic, it can-either be driven in deeper as,the.settling
tabes place,or cut off with a Sail as needed.
Jim stated it would take a lot of structural analysis to.design a pool strong enough,.and that
Crane Industries has offered him design.so ware for such purposes.
Jirn also talked about an alternative.to.the sheet-piling would be to use Geote tile, tubes.
He hien reviewed the project schedule since the beginning of the contract and highlighted
differences-between the predicted timetable versus-the.actual timetable,. There-was a
lengthy discussion of the shortfalls in the contractor's}performance.
.ick asked about a nunor about somebody wanting to dredge a channel.20 feet 4eep
through Shoestring Bay all the way up to the Condos. leo one knows where that came
from.
. Pro osed new.channel vice ara lel to
Jim.Hanks tabled the item-since-the Mashpee River pro*ect is f a higher priority.
NEW BUSINESS
1.
