The motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> OLD BUSMSS <br /> 1. Harbormaster Roort—Perry ]is - <br /> 1n Ferry's absence,there was no Harbormaster Report. <br /> 2. Shellfish Constable Report—Rick York - <br /> Rick reported the following: <br /> a. iashpee's Shellfish Department,waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve <br /> (WBNERR)and men*Corps recently conducted a benthic napping survey of waquoit Bay. <br /> The survey mapped the bottom seaweed, shellfish, quahogs and sediment types using high <br /> resolution photography, an underwater camera and physical samples of seaweed. The purpose of <br /> the survey was to create a baseline in order to measure bottom characteristics of the bay, <br /> b. The 1lahpee River Oyster Project encompasses the area from the mouth of the river to Orsini <br /> Beach. There are approximately 150,000 oysters there now, The project is designed to <br /> demonstrate the effect a healthy shellfish population has in removing nitrogen from the river <br /> water. (Oyster meat is 1.6 %nitrogen.) The hope is to expand the demonstration project by <br /> almost ten times in order to remove 500 kilograms of nitrogen per year from the river. <br /> Page I of 4 <br />
