Mashpee Cultural Council
Minutes from January 12, 2018 Meeting
Present: Dawn Thayer, Lynn Waterman, Bill Nay, Mary Alice Stahleker, Nina Cocomazzi,
MaryKate O'Brien Guest: Bruce Taggert
Meeting called to order 2:05 PM
Dawn shared there is $300 less than expected to award based on the report through the state
website of the Cultural Council. Balance of last year and our new funds totaled $5,125, not
$5,425.
There will need to be two adjustments to what was originally voted on November 14, 2018
based on an appeal for reconsideration and over funding.
1. Discussion: If Oktoberfest is reduced by $300, the funding is from a revolving account,
so the impact would be minimal and event would still occur.
o Lynn Waterman made a motion to reduce from $500 to $200
• The motion was seconded by Bill Nay
• Vote: 5 in favor, 1 abstention (D. Thayer)
2. Discussion: Creative Outlets:Finding Your Voice Through Art appealing a denial for
funding.
• Dawn Thayer- made a motion to reduce Shakespeare in the Park from $475 to
$375 (-$100)
• The motion was seconded by MaryKate O'Brien
• Vote: 5 in favor, 1 abstained (D. Thayer)
• Lynn Waterman made a motion to reduce Voices from the Wheelhouse from
$500 to $400 (-$100)
• The motion was seconded by Nina Cocomazzi
• Vote: 6 in favor
• Dawn Thayer- made a motion to provide $200 to Creative Outlets: Finding Your
Voice Through Arts
• The motion was seconded by Lynn Waterman
Vote: All in favor
Further discussion:
What criteria do we want for Mashpee Cultural Council Local Guidelines? Changes need to be
made before next funding round. Suggestion was made to schedule a follow up meeting to bring
recommendations for guidelines.
Dawn will complete state report and send out acceptance letters via email.
