Ms. Dami
recommended the Board consider a ballot question to let the voters determine where the polls should
be located. The use of the Quashnet School represents a hardship to the elderly voters who require
walking a great distance from the parking lot to the school gymnasium and restrooms although not
regularly used during voting may represent a potential breach in security.
Ms. Dami also made note of overtime expenses for staff members, DPW support and police detail
officers. voting is a long day for the poll workers some of which are required to set up. It was noted
the school day ends at 3:35 p.m. It would be permissible for Town employees to set up after this time.
Saturday elections were considered,but deemed low in terms of attendance.
The Board of Selectmen acted as follows;
Motion made by Selectman Cotton to hold the Special Election on October 1,2019 at
The Christ the King Church Parish Hall.
Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara.
VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes
Selectman Sherman,yes opposed, none
Motion made by Selectman Cotton effective March 3,2020 the polling place would move to the
Quashnet School.
