BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING <br /> TUESDAY, September 11,201 S, <br /> MASHPEE LIBRARY CONFERENCE ROOM <br /> Present: Mary LeClair, Joan Lyons, Virginia Scharfenberg, Matt Auger and Ann Macdonald <br /> Absent: Sandra Horsman, Amanda Hall <br /> 5 <br /> Also Present: Kathy Mahoney—Library Director <br /> Mary LeClair, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:04 p.m. <br /> Public Discussion: Done <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> MOTION: Joan Lyons motioned to accept the Regular Meeting minutes of August 14, 2018 as <br /> presented. The Motion was seconded by Ann Macdonald.. <br /> Yes--4. NOTE: <br /> Roll Call Vote: Virginia Scharfenberg, yes Mary LeClair, yes <br /> Ann Macdonald,yes Joan Lyons, yes <br /> Matt Auger,Abstained <br /> Friends of the Mashpee Library <br /> The Friends event featuring bestselling author Lisa Genova is scheduled for September 13, at <br /> willowbend and is expected to be quite successful. Trustees were encouraged to attend and support <br /> the Friends. <br /> The Friends are interested in setting up fundraising plan for the garden area and would like input or <br /> any guidelines from Trustees. <br /> Library Director's Re art <br /> The Library Director reported that a new parttime Circulation Assistant has been hired and was <br /> beginning work after scheduling issues were resolved. <br /> The Library Director's report was discussed including updates on the American Libraries Association <br /> recommendations for Meeting Room Policies, and the need to continue to review and update policies <br /> concerning political and/or religious activities. The Library Director will continue to research and <br /> monitor and draft possible questions for Town Counsel. The demand for meeting rooms continues to <br /> be significant, and not all requests can be accommodated. <br /> Options for expanding the Library's operating hours within the current budget and staffing parameters <br /> were discussed. Staffing and personnel configurations were considered, and impact on staff schedules. <br /> Per MBLC certification guidelines, towns with population of 15,000 are required to be open to the <br /> public 50 hours per week in order to be fully compliant with state standards. The population will be <br /> recorded again in.the 2020 Census, and Mashpee may hit the 15,000 mark. The Library Director <br /> indicated that she would work on options and discuss with staff and report back to Board at next <br /> meeting. <br />
