The Turks and
Caicos pattern was the consensus choice of the Board. The
project was very well received by children and parents, which was reflected in attendance and
enthusiasm displayed by participants. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners rated it as
an "exemplary project" in its category. STEM programming will continue in the future and build on
the success of the initial programs. Janet Burke exited the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
Public Discussion: None
Friends of the Mashpee Library
Ann Macdonald provided a report on the activities of the Friends of the Library. The Friends recently
launched their annual appeal and have already raised $9000 from 69 donors. The Friends are
continuing to expand their fundraising plans and are adding new board members.
4:37 p.m. Trustee Virginia Schar-fenberg enters the meeting.
Library Director's Report
Library Director reported on the Library's Budget meeting at Town Hall with Board Chair LeClair, the
Town Manager and Assistant Town Manager the afternoon of November 13. The meeting was
positive and focused primarily on reviewing salary and personnel expenses.
A question of Meeting Room use was outlined by the Library Director and centered on the restrictions
of use for commercial purposes. The consensus of the Trustees was to support the decision not to
approve the request, which was not in keeping with guidelines prohibiting the use of public space for
commercial purposes.
