BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING <br /> TUESDAY, November 13, 2018 <br /> MASHPEE LIBRARY CONFERENCE ROOM <br /> Present: Mary LeClair, Matt Auger,Amanda Hall, Joan Lyons, <br /> Ann Macdonald. <br /> Also Present: Kathy Mahoney—Library Director <br /> Mary LeClair, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. in the Library Event Room. <br /> Carpet samples and squares were evaluated in the Event Room to match the wall color. The Turks and <br /> Caicos pattern was the consensus choice of the Board. Library Director will follow up with DPW and <br /> vendor to place order pending reasonable pricing. <br /> 4:10 p.m. Meeting returned to the Library Conference Room <br /> Youth Services Librarian Janet Burke presented an overview of the recently completed LSTA Grant <br /> "Science is Everywhere,"which focused on STEM programming for elementary age students. The <br /> project was very well received by children and parents, which was reflected in attendance and <br /> enthusiasm displayed by participants. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners rated it as <br /> an "exemplary project" in its category. STEM programming will continue in the future and build on <br /> the success of the initial programs. Janet Burke exited the meeting at 4:30 p.m. <br /> Public Discussion: None <br /> Friends of the Mashpee Library <br /> Ann Macdonald provided a report on the activities of the Friends of the Library. The Friends recently <br /> launched their annual appeal and have already raised $9000 from 69 donors. The Friends are <br /> continuing to expand their fundraising plans and are adding new board members. <br /> 4:37 p.m. Trustee Virginia Schar-fenberg enters the meeting. <br /> Library Director's Report <br /> Library Director reported on the Library's Budget meeting at Town Hall with Board Chair LeClair, the <br /> Town Manager and Assistant Town Manager the afternoon of November 13. The meeting was <br /> positive and focused primarily on reviewing salary and personnel expenses. <br /> A question of Meeting Room use was outlined by the Library Director and centered on the restrictions <br /> of use for commercial purposes. The consensus of the Trustees was to support the decision not to <br /> approve the request, which was not in keeping with guidelines prohibiting the use of public space for <br /> commercial purposes. <br />
