Mashpee
experienced triennial revaluations in 1990 and 1993. The 1990 revaluation came just as the Cape
P
indeed the world, was experiencing a recession. Although new construction was added to the tax
rolls during these years, the value of existing property decreased, decreasing the valuation of the town.
1990 1991 1992 1993 1994
Residential 11531,0571000 1,363,480,405 '1,267,265,654 1,093,609 635 11052,704,485
Commerical 1050350,891 86,8861858 82,194,974 11169,100 11128P500
Industrial 22,619,200 20,908,300 18,886,200 69,632,624 701 981,651
'1
Open Space 1113,100 127411000 1,923,700 14,394,100 131845,600
Personal 40,641,920 4_0602,850 35,736,355 39,628,484 40,258,870
1 1700,78211 11 11513,219,413 1,409,046,879 1 218,433
1943 1,178,919,106
Maximum Allowable Tax Levy
Every year, the town may increase the tax levy 2.5%. The town will also appropriate taxes from new
construction ("new growth"), to pay the Cape Cod Commission county assessment, and to a debt
= PY
excluded from the limits of Proposition 2'/7. This equation results in the maximum tax levy allowed
under Proposition 2'/z.
1990 1991 1992 1993 1994
Levy Limit 1014061946 11,906,502 127513,733 1311791429 1316781840
+2.5% 260,174 2977663 3121843 329,486' 341,971
+ New growth 11239,382309,568 352,853 1691925 286,266
= New Limit 11,906,502 12,513,733 13,179,429
13,678,840 14,307,077
+ Cape Cod Commission 0 105,803 1081431 107,121
+ debt excl. 1,954,900 2L705,729 1,879,428 1 677,375
1,658.740
-Total that CAN BE raised
by taxation 13,861,402 157219,462 151164,660 15,4641646 16,072,938
Tax Rate
The tax rate is set in the fall, after the October annual town meeting.
