Chief William <br /> Przybylek brings many years of police experience <br /> with him and along with his family is settling into our <br /> community with ease and becoming a familiar face <br /> around town. We wish Chief Curtis Frye a long and <br /> happy retirement. <br /> Much has happened in the area of natural resources. <br /> Foremost was the establishment of the Mashpee <br /> Wildlife Refuge■ Through a joint management agree- <br /> ment involving Federal, State and local agencies 5900 <br /> acres in Mashpee and Falmouth have been.earmarked <br /> for preservation. The Mashpee Coastal Resources <br /> Management Committee was activated to review and <br /> make recommendations related to coastal resources.A <br /> marine pump-out program has been established to pro- <br /> tect the water quality of bath Popponessett and <br /> Waquoit Bay. Comprehensive regulations governing <br /> fishing tournaments on our ponds have been put into <br /> place and the first phase of extensive repairs have been <br /> made to the Mashpee River herring run. <br /> s <br /> The Mashpee High School building ro•e p g g p � ct is mov- <br /> ing ahead of schedule and the construction contract <br /> should be awarded in May. Preliminary plans for the <br /> renovation of the Samuel Davis School into a town <br /> hall are being developed and the process of upgrading <br /> the town computer system is moving ahead. <br /> With the assistance of the Economic Development <br /> Committee, we have hired a part-time Economic <br /> Development Coordinator, published a Mashpee <br /> Guide for Business and erected "Welcome to <br /> Mashpee" signs with landscaping, We have also <br /> helped Mashpee Village undertake extensive renova- <br /> tions with Federal grants through the Town. <br /> 7 <br />
