Recommendation for new Shellfish Commission member
Richard Cook was approved for the Shellfish Commission
Public Access/Family Area Designations
Ashley Fisher is designating the Mashpee Neck Landing area as family area. Just the immediate area,
not the entire shoreline. We don't want to take away from commercial fishermen.
Would also like to designate Daniel's Island, by Popponesett. If a kayak company uses it for profit, why
can't we us it as a family area? It is private property.
Mark Burtis stated that it could be argued in court that it's ancient land. Ashley Fisher is going to look
into that. Peter Thomas said in Barnstable they got legal counsel and got records showing it was used for
decades and was an ancient way. You'd be surprised how many ancient ways are around if we could find
some older members of the public who know where to go.
Aquaculture License Area Upkeep and Float Allowance
Inset under AQUACULTURE LICNESE AREA UPKEEP,from Constable's Report
AQUACUTURE SUPPORT STRUCTURES
FLOATS AND SHEDS
FLOATS:
• Floats shall be approved by the harbormaster. Applications should include the type of construction,
type of floatation used and the length and width of the structure. The harbormaster may require the
anchor be larger than the town wide standard sizes given the location and exposure of the float.
•The mooring associated with the float requires a 10A permit issued by the department annually. (See
FTC Chapter 269)This permit will only issues if all the other local, state and federal aquaculture permits
are received by the applicant.
Floats must be located within the approved grant site only.
Floats may not interfere with other moorings or navigational channels.
Aquaculture floats are authorized to be on site from April 15th to October 15th only unless a waiver is
approved by the harbormaster.
SHEDS or Aquaculture Structures:
• All Sheds or structures larger than (120)square feet require a building permit from the Towns
Inspectional Services Department. A permit is required for 120SF or greater because the use is
commercial. If the shed exceeds (120)SF a copy of the building permit is required to be filed with our
office.
