Mr. Peters indicated
he is appreciative of the Board of Selectmen moving forward with open conversation regarding water
quality, He is supportive of the intent to allow interested parties and neighboring towns to participate
in the process to determine the best solutions for the Town of Mashpee. However, at the last meeting,
there were comments made by a Sewer Commissioner that prompted Mr. Peters to defend his
character. Remarks at the meeting were made by Mr. Peters relative to the decline of home values,
chemicals and odor control regarding the proposed siting of a wastewater treatment facility in the
vicinity of the Ashers Path neighborhood.
While watching the remainder of the meeting at home, Mr. Peters indicated he was appalled by the
comments, and has the right to questions decisions. In his opinion, home values would decline if a
treatment plant was located at the entrance to his neighborhood and actions for odor control and
chemical use should be regulated and controlled. At the July Sewer'Commission meeting on
wastewater Mr. Peters stated there was no opportunity for comment on the operation aspect of the
facility. It was only permissible to make reference to the design of the facility. Mr. Peters indicated
he will continue to.fight for clean water, and it is important for the Town to work with the community.
It is hopeful that future meetings on wastewater will allow for reasonable joint conversations with the
public. It was disclosed that special meetings are planned to be scheduled on the matter of wastewater
and will be a topic of discussion at this meeting.
