Popponesset Bay Area: Note relevant comments from the Harbormaster's report. On a
positive note Tim Leedham reported that he has noticed a considerable amount of small fish
school activity in the Bay.
Waquoit Bay Area: Nothing to report beyond references from the Harbormaster's report.
Water Quality: The water quality testing program concluded in August for the season. All test
kits have been returned to the University. Don MacDonald reported that the Tribe hopes to be
more involved with volunteers next year. The program was successfully implemented due to
the efforts of many volunteers.
Barnstable County Coastal Resources: The Barnstable County Dredge Committee meeting
has not been scheduled yet. This is a high priority item. Ken Bates to monitor the situation.
Sewer Commission: As noted under Appointments Dick Noonan has volunteered to serve as
the MWC liaison. Formal vote affirming this will take place when needed at a later meeting.
Public Access: Nothing to report. But it was noted that we are not aware of what equipment
will be available to us which reinforces why a meeting needs to take place.
Waterways Improvement Plans: working Team member. A scope of work for the project is
being developed by the Expansion Project team. A preliminary budget has been developed by
Ken for the project. A review of available funds has been determined that adequate Waterway
funds will be available after October Town Meeting and approval of our Articles. Note that
expenditure of those funds still leaves the Waterways Commission with enough operating
reserves for other matters. We intend to look for other funding sources if available. Passage of
MWC Articles at October Town Meeting is important for your/our attendance and votes. A
partial RFP (scope of work) has been drafted, is subject to change, and will be sent to Terry
Cook to be formatted and issued for the engineering work required to acquire all permits,
licenses and approvals from all local, state and Federal agencies. We also have determined
that we need to survey the connection from the Great River Boat ramp to the soon to be
proposed Great River Channel and consider it to be a part of the overall Channel expansion
project. A note requesting $2500 for the survey work has been sent to Wayne Taylor, ATM, for
processing. A copy of the contract for the work has been received by Ken.
New Business:
There is a State sponsored workshop for Municipal Vulnerability Planning for all interested
parties. This program will provide funds to towns to address their vulnerable areas. Ken will
follow up to assess Waterways interest and need for participation.
Additional Topics:
None
Adjournment
There being no further business to conduct a motion was made by Gregg Fraser to adjourn. It
was seconded by Don MacDonald. It was unanimously approved by all and meeting adjourned
at 10:20am.
Respectfully submitted by Richard Noonan, Acting Secretary
for: Ken Bates, Chairman, Don MacDonald, Vice Chairman, Dick Noonan, Acting Secretary
Tim Leedham, Al Wickel, Gregg Fraser, Steve Mone
