It was noted that these are special public meetings, to be held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month,
the first on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Peter Thomas said it is important that these special
meetings are like workshops, but need to have an outline to follow so we can keep on track and
not let the public control the flow of the meeting.
Ashley will forward regulations from a town similar to what she would like Mashpee to have,to
committee members prior to the meeting.
Area availability will be conducted through shellfish surveys over the next couple of months.
Ashley Fisher will bring to the board once the data is collected. There are 3 potential farm sites:
Great River, Hamblin Pond, and Jehu Pond. Ockway Bay is always a possibility. The Tribe's
site is up in the air.No one is managing the grant, there's a potential for disease if not managed
properly.
Bill Holmes asked what control we have over what they do. Ashley Fisher said because of
the land situation she is staying out of it. They are obligated to grow a certain amount of
oysters. They met the minimum production of what Mashpee requires. Dick Cook said
that's planting, not harvesting. Peter Thomas commented it would be nice to know. We're
all in the same town, the silence is frustrating. Ashley Fisher said it is 8 acres on prime site
currently not being utilized to its full potential.
Aquaculture Upkeep and Float
Ashley Fisher is talking with the Harbormaster about edits.
New Business
Elect Committee Designations
Peter Thomas announced he will not continue in the role of Chairman of the Committee. There
was discussion about Dick Cook taking on the role. Dick wanted it noted that his only
apprehension was he had been newly elected to the committee and didn't want to step on
anyone's toes. Bill Holmes and Darryl Christensen both stated that they were not interested in
the position.
Bill Holmes motioned to elect Dick Cook as Chairman, seconded by Darryl Christensen. All
voted unanimous in favor.
Peter Thomas has been playing phone tag with Andrew Gottlieb in regards to a liaison.
(This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably anticipate would be
discussed.)
Ashley Fisher had two reports to handout:
Bohnenberger Equipment Layout- Visual aspect is important in this particular grant and they
came up with a gear layout that made everyone happy.
