Town of Mash pee <br /> m cis <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> " AaE 66- Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> BOARD OF HEALTH - PUBLIC SESSION <br /> Mashpee Town Hall —Waquoit Meeting Room <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of September 19, 2019 <br /> Board Members Present: Member Absent: Also Present: <br /> Brian Baumgaertel, Chair Mallory Langler, Clerk Glen Harrington, Health Agent <br /> Laurel Almquist, Co-Chair <br /> Chair Brian Baumgaertel called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. <br /> APPOINTMENTS <br /> 7:15—135 Main Street <br /> Glen Harrington commented that the retailer had requested a continuance due to emergency travel. <br /> Laurel Almquist moved to continue the matter of the tobacco compliance check at 135 Main Street until <br /> the meeting on October 10, 2019. Motion seconded by Brian Baumgaertel. VOTE: Unanimous(2-0). <br /> 7:20—Barbara Dummermuth <br /> Mr. Harrington commented that the applicant wishes to be excluded from local Board of Health permitting <br /> due to her license as an acupuncturist. Physicians, nurses,school athletic trainers, chiropractors, physical <br /> therapists, and podiatrists are exempt, but acupuncture is not listed as an approved exemption. Other <br /> exemptions include the applicant providing a bodywork permit from another town and then, with a <br /> physician's order,they would be permitted to see Mashpee clients without a permit. <br /> The applicant, Barbara Dummermuth, introduced herself for the record, stating that she is requesting an <br /> exemption from the Board of Health Bodywork Regulation. She elaborated on the differences between <br /> eastern and western medicine with respect to educational requirements. Specifically,she mentioned that <br /> she had training in biology, chemistry, physics and psychology. Ms. Dummermuth did not have a <br /> bodywork permit from another town. <br /> Mr. Harrington explained to the Board that this is a request to perform Reiki services without a bodywork <br /> permit. He informed the Board that Ms. Dummermuth has a current state-issued acupuncturist license, <br /> which is renewable every three years, and her request is based on her opinion that the education <br /> requirements for an acupuncturist are equivalent to that of other professions that are exempt within the <br /> regulation. Ms. Dummermuth meets the requirements for the bodywork permit,the decision is whether <br /> the medicine and bio-medicine education for acupuncture is equal to the education of the exempted <br /> professions within the regulation.
