f
r
MASHPEE SEWER COMMISSION M 1]ING MINUTES
wD1SA , FEBRUARY 11, 199
TOWN HALL
Present. Brad Caffyn, Tom F udala, Denis Bal arini
Meeting convened at 7-05 p.m.
Tom explained he spoke with Doug Storrs and Buff Chase of Mashpee Commons today about
wastewater for the Mashpee Commons project and the proposal for a pipeline for discharge
down to New Seabury. They are willing to come to the next Sewer Commission meeting, with
their consultant, to talk about those issues.
Brad asked if Andy Gottlieb could attend a meeting to talk about any available grant funds for
wastewater facilities.
Torn said he has already submitted an application to the State. Andy Gottlieb already did a
program on the Cape discussing what funds are available. Tory said this Committee can discuss
it but he doesn't think we should ask the State to come down here again. They have all that
information in writing.
Brad would like to have a discussion with them about what other towns have done, any mistakes
they have trade so we do not repeat them. He 1s not against going to Boston to meet with therm..
He would like to hear about ghat kind of success other towns have had with these funds.
Torn said a vast majority of the funds are used for planning and designing sewage treatment
punts.
Brad asked if the Mate has edueatiora materials, or courses on these subjects?
Torn said they do not bold courses. He has some education material in his office. we would
hire an engineering firm to get all these answers for us.
Brad said there may be red flags out there for certain types of systems. Maybe we could send
therm a letter with our concerns.
Brad would also like to see the costs associated with the systems.
Torn said the grant proposal is to hire an engineering firm to do that.
Brad asked if the State would give us a guesstimate on costs, do they have that information
available?
Torn does not think the State would do that for us. They would expect as to hire a consultant but
there is &cram money for a facilities plan.
Brad asked if the Mate has an outline, for going through the sewering process? Torn does not
know.
Dennis suggested sending a letter to the State asking them for a list of other towns who went
through this and we can contract them ourselves, especially towns -with similar topography.
i brad said he is lling to listen to Mashpee Commons, at the next meeting, but W1 11 not make
any comment on it because he does not have enough information.
