SEWER COMNUSSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNES AY,MAY 1391 TOWN HALL Present: Dennis alarini, John Cahalane, Tom Fdala Also Present: Carl Grasstti Meeting was called to order at :12 p.m. First order of business, after an election, is reorganisation of the Commission. The bylaw state a Chairman and Clerk are required. Traditionally the Commission has also elected a Vice Chairman. John made a notion to nominate Tom Fudala for Chairman. Tennis seconded the motion. Tom seconded the motion. All members were in favor Toni explained that Carl Grassetti, who supervised the building and operation of the treatment plant at Stratford Ponds is present to discuss the arnphidrorne plant and its operation. Mr. Grassetti explained the plant was designed by Tetra Technologies. He brought a copy of the manual desc 'bing the system for the Commission. Keith Dolby from.FR Mahoney put together the process along with an engineer from Tetra. Mr. Grassed designed the physical plant, from a shop drawing stand point. The technology has been around for years. John asked Mr. Grassetti if he is an engineer` Mr. Greti said he is not. He is a chemist by training. Grassetti described the process. Raw sewage flows into an equalization tank(anoxic) which t Stratford Ponds can hold 22,500 gallons. They have two of these tams. The plant can handle 611 gallons per day. In the equalization tank the solids settle,there is a partial breakdown. The material then flows into the arnphidrorne reactor, which is 2 concrete tanks filled with different sized aggregate. The retention time is set by computer module. The bacteria works, cycling between oxygen and anoxic cycles to biodegrade the sewage. It cycles through the arnphidrome tank three titres. 1
