SEWER COMNUSSION MEETING MINUTES <br /> WEDNES AY,MAY 1391 <br /> TOWN HALL <br /> Present: Dennis alarini, John Cahalane, Tom Fdala <br /> Also Present: Carl Grasstti <br /> Meeting was called to order at :12 p.m. <br /> First order of business, after an election, is reorganisation of the Commission. The bylaw state a <br /> Chairman and Clerk are required. Traditionally the Commission has also elected a Vice <br /> Chairman. <br /> John made a notion to nominate Tom Fudala for Chairman. Tennis seconded the <br /> motion. All members were in favor rt * <br /> John made a motion to nominate Dennis for Vice Chairman. Tom seconded the <br /> motion. All members were in favor <br /> " Dennis made a notion to nominate John for Clerk Secretary. Tom seconded the <br /> motion. All members were in favor <br /> Toni explained that Carl Grassetti, who supervised the building and operation of the treatment <br /> plant at Stratford Ponds is present to discuss the arnphidrorne plant and its operation. <br /> Mr. Grassetti explained the plant was designed by Tetra Technologies. He brought a copy of the <br /> manual desc 'bing the system for the Commission. <br /> Keith Dolby from.FR Mahoney put together the process along with an engineer from Tetra. <br /> Mr. Grassed designed the physical plant, from a shop drawing stand point. The technology has <br /> been around for years. <br /> John asked Mr. Grassetti if he is an engineer` <br /> Mr. Greti said he is not. He is a chemist by training. <br /> Grassetti described the process. Raw sewage flows into an equalization tank(anoxic) which <br /> t Stratford Ponds can hold 22,500 gallons. They have two of these tams. The plant can handle <br /> 611 <br /> gallons per day. <br /> In the equalization tank the solids settle,there is a partial breakdown. The material then flows <br /> into the arnphidrorne reactor, which is 2 concrete tanks filled with different sized aggregate. The <br /> retention time is set by computer module. <br /> The bacteria works, cycling between oxygen and anoxic cycles to biodegrade the sewage. It <br /> cycles through the arnphidrome tank three titres. <br /> 1 <br />
