.. terrestrial water and nitrogen flows to the Bays: evaluate where it ends up in the Bays. This will
be done by both team members.
4
-tidal flushing and dilation models: this exists already for PopponessaBay.
-Evaluation of eutrophicaton
-Evaluation of alternatives
Jennifer .givers: discussed additional modeling details. Dr. Howes will do modeling for
Popponesset Bay. Ms. Rivers has worked on wa uoit Bay for 4 years, and published 5 studies on
it. She is Willing to share that data and model. They were EPA funded studies including: flushing
model, nitrogen loading model, ecological risk assessment, estuarine response model. This will
e integrated with the lopponesset Bay model and we will have a strong scientific picture of
what is going on for nitrogen dynamics.
Pipeline: the pn'mary focus is the New Seabury property. Weston and Sampson will take a
serious look at the options Mere. They have never worked for New Sebu-y and have no
perceived conflicts. They suggest early negotiations with New Seabury in order to evaluate the
site. They have carried are allowance for doing some testing there.
Site options are limited. Spray iffigation is a possibility as is sub surface disposal. Kingston and
Plymouth use spray irrigations now. Its expensive and has to be evaluated. Location for
subsurface disposal would have to be discussed early in the process.
The benefit os Weston and Sampson:
Critical Value Added: they provide a link with the history of waquoit Bay and Dr. Howes'
work
-can help the Sewer Commission sell this project, they have done it in the past.
Weston and Sampson can help N hpee build it. It will not just be a study that sits on a shelf.
QUESTIONS:
1. The proposal mentions confirming the watershed boundaries. we assumed use of the Cape
Cod Commission boundaries. what level of effort will this require?
Weston and Sampson responded that it will not be a substantial level of effort. They want to be
aware of differences, if here are any and try to resolve therm.
2. Please explain how Weston and Sampson will approach doing nitrogen loading estimating
taking into account seasonality.
Weston and Sampson said there is a fair amount of information already out them. They will look
at existing information and adjust it by use of current treatment plant records,by water usage
information, adjust regional information with specific information for this town. For build out,
they will look at town VAde averages, how its changing.
. Tom said he did not see much about mapping/GIS in the proposal. How will you illustrate
wort ?
Weston and Sampson said heir intent is to do it with GIS and integrate it with the town's
information so it can be used in different ways. They will pull together data bases and
spreadsheets in different combinations.
Tom asked if they have GIS staff in their organization?
They do, will Blaze has been their GIS person for the last 10 years.
