and we'll continue to check up and receive reports.
We're starting to work with. Americorp for the 2019-2020 season. Pretty straightforward annual
activities. I've also been working with Tribal Americorp members at Pickerel Cove for general trail
maintenance and storm clean up.
On the land management side of things I've been working, with the friends group of the refuge to
distribute new brochures and trail guides. Generally speaking the dumping has been increasing.as
of late, hopefully we can install more trail cameras soon so people can be held accountable. In general
we're looking into assessing storm damage from the bomb cyclone. I've received reports from
stewards of downed trees. I added hunting season signs on all trail heads as an FYI. Also looking for
ways to address some slumped. areas on the trails that have been collecting water over the years.
I'm going to talk to WEBNNER about it. As far as outreach goes,,Agent and I 'talked with the AP
biology class about Johns Pond Herring Run, History of the Quashnet River and the upcoming
restoration. Also a similar field trip in November with the 71h grade class. I'll also be attending MA
trails conference the end of this month and a chainsaw training course. I'm also presenting at a break
out session as part of the panel called Navigating Wetland Regulations and working with
Conservation Commissions to help the public determine the permits for their trails.
All the bylaw changes were passed at the last Town Meeting. The bans drafted for plastic straws
.and polystyrene were indefinitely. postponed, so we'll just work on public awareness and discuss
results from other towns and move forward in potentially May or next fall to get it back on the warrant:
This.is a good opportunity for people to really understand the whole picture of recycling and current
contacts in our town.
I left another message about the herring count program, I will tell you about the data when it comes
out. I've been working with the Natural Resource.department. in seeding the quahogs that will
eventually be harvested and will help with the nitrogen removal out of the estuaries.
Mr. Sweet asked if Conservation Commission is becoming a key player to the whole recycle question
in town?
Agent said other committees came up with the article. It's really about a push to incentivize recycling
industry and support for that.Andrew Gottlieb was thorough and covered everything that I would have
talked about and I didn't want to be duplicative. I'm happy to support any initiative on this, I just didn't
have anything to add to what Gottlieb said.
Mr. McKay said.maybe in the future we could do a roll call vote just to show support/go on record as
supporting. Agent said that's a great idea, even as an endorsement.
Agent also mentioned that The Town launched their Facebook Page, which is huge, to be able to .
relay Town information.
Motion: Mr. Smith moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. McKay.
Vote: 5-0 unanimous
Meeting adjourned at 7:23pm
Respectful) Sub ted,
trin ng
d ecretary
5
