know how to get the public to know. Ashley Fisher reiterated that people out on the water do
not know. Dick Cook said it comes down to our own personal responsibility, 1 hate to see
something regulated. The more you have invested in the area, the more you want to protect it.
Ashley Fisher said legislature is heading in a direction that we need to get something written in
the Town rules to prevent what has already happened in other areas. Essentially, a big
corporation/investors could come in and purchase aquaculture sites from the small guy. It's
better to have the rule with the Town, therefore there's no discussion about it. It's all about
keeping it local and not industrial.
Volunteer Program: Mashpee M.U.S.S.L.E.'s
- Quahog Seeding
- Shellfish Surveys
New Business:
Mashpee Senior Center Event
Oyster Seeding at Mashpee Neck Landing
Dick Cook said there must've been a fair amount of stuff that was seed from last year that did
really well. That stuff does really well in that location. Ashley Fisher said it was. She said they
were about 100 bags in the Mashpee River for about two months and they started splitting
them looking for growth and mortality. Dick Cook asked what time of year that was, Ashley
Fisher said around last October.Ashley Fisher said the security cameras are helping in the
landing, she can see people going in/coming out of the water.
Additional Topics:
(This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably anticipate would be discussed)
The Board of the Shellfish Commission needs to get Mashpee Neck Landing to be a family area. Darryl
Christensen asked how we do that? Ashley Fisher said she just needs a letter from the Shellfish
Commission, if someone wants to draft that.
Darryl Christensen moved to draft a letter, seconded by Bill Holmes. All in favor. Dick Cook will draft
something and send it to Ashley Fisher.
Ashley Fisher had correspondence from the Monomoscoy Trust wanting to reiterate to the Board of
Selectmen their concerns over water quality.
Adiourn Meeting
Dick Cook moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Bill Holmes. All in favor.
Meeting adjourned 8:08pm
Respectfully Submi t ed,
{
K8trin4 E i7 ng, Board Secretary
