• The Town will be conducting an online surplus auction for departments to clear out
unwanted and unnecessary items.
• The CLAMS auto renew feature begins today for eligible items. Library materials that are
eligible for renewal will automatically be renewed three days before the due date. Three
renewals are allowed per item. The American Library Association recommends that all
libraries eliminate fines to allow for patron equity, though the CLAMS network has not
adopted this position, assisting patrons with the renewal process and thus allowing them
to not incur fines, will be a positive step. Replacement charges for lost or damaged
materials will remain in force.
• On November 1, the publisher Macmillan placed an embargo on library purchases of new
ebooks. During the first eight weeks after a Macmillan ebook is published, libraries are
permitted to purchase only one copy. Libraries are able to purchase as many print copies
of the books as they would like to. After the eight week period, libraries can purchase
additional ebook copies. CLAMS is working on a consortia wide response to this
development.
• The Trustees discussed the Library policy on displaying rack cards, business cards, and
flyers form outside organizations, and affirmed that their position, which does not allow
this practice. The number of requests from various for-profits and non-profits can not all
be accommodated, and the Library would not attempt to vet and prioritize one group's
request over others. The Board concluded that it is also not fair to make exceptions for
one good cause or organization, but not all.
Budget FY 21
• The Library Director has submitted the proposed 2021 Library budget. It will be a 1.1%
increase over last year. However, the salary figures do not reflect any new terms which
may be negotiated through collective bargaining.
Friends of the Library Report
• The Friends fundraising efforts continue to be supported by the community.
• Possible event possibilities being considered are a June author event, a Ladies Night Out,
or hosting a comedian. The annual mini-golf event will be held in April in celebration of
the library's 1 Oth birthday.
Policy Updates: Discussion of Public Comment Policy
• The Board will draft a policy to review at next month's meeting.
Trustee Advocacy
• Ann Macdonald will contact the Kiwanis Club about speaking at one of their upcoming
meetings.
