Don MacDonald then reported that the Mashpee/Wakeby Committee has reported that lake
water levels are normal. Finally, the Mashpee/Wakeby Fall Newsletter is complete and is
posted on the Town website.
Popponesset Bay Area: Nothing to report
Waquoit Bay Area: Noting to report
Water Quality: Nothing to report. All material activity on hold until the spring
Barnstable County Coastal Resources: Ken reported that the dredge schedule is still delayed
and subject to severe weather delays. Gregg Fraser added that the Town of Falmouth dredge
projects are far behind schedule and will likely impact Mashpee projects.
Sewer Commission: Nothing to report
Public Access: Ken reported that he had sent a note to Catherine Laurent regarding the
Commissions position on the Ockway Boat Ramp traffic flow and the use of a Town ramp by a
commercial service provider. As noted above under the heading of Information Session, a
formal vote on ramp traffic flow was delayed until the January meeting.
Waterways Improvement Plans: There is still not a date for the dredging of the Popponesset
Approach Channel that Mashpee had originally requested to be scheduled for January `20.
LR/GR Expansion Project: Nothing specific to report on the progress of the project. However,
Ken did update the Commission on the possibility to undertake a study to understand the
impact that dredging may have on tidal flow and water quality. In addition to being an
important factor to understand for our efforts it would help address this same question posed
by others.
A question was asked whether we anticipate any concerning chemical deposits in this dredge
project. The answer forthcoming is that we do not but we will be taking core samples to
confirm this and to determine how to dispose of dredged materials.
Ken reported that he is working on recommendations for the disposal of the materials from the
Expansion Project. Further he reported that Drew McManus, Conservation Agent for the Town
is beginning a discussion on where we will dispose of dredged materials. It is essential that we
have a plan. Even if it is determined that the material must be shipped out of Mashpee we will
still need a place to dry the materials out before Shipmen
New Business:
Ken reported that going before the Conservation Commission this Thursday is an NOI for the
redesign of the Popponesset Approach Channel. The Woods Hole Group is the engineer on
this project. Ken also noted that this could be a complicated permitting process and we would
therefore keep it separate from our Comprehensive Dredging Permitting process and look to
adopt it under the Comprehensive Permit when complete and after an MOU is written between
the Town and SPB.
Additional Togics:
No additional topics were introduced
Adiournment
