MOTION: Mr. Hyde made a motion to recommend the two 30x96 wide signs on the rear
of the building of 2 Center Street, to be placed on the exterior, on the outside of the
windows and acceptance of the ladder sign as proposed. Mr. Balzarini seconded the
motion. All voted unanimously.
Applicant: Harriet Thompson
Location: 237 Main Street, Mashpee
Request: Certificate of Appropriateness
Description: The applicant is seeking endorsement of Certificate of
Appropriateness for exterior roofing, paint and front door on her home
Mr. Lehrer explained that the applicant had inherited the home on Main Street. According to
regulations, Ms. Thompson was actually in need of a Certificate of Non-Applicability, rather
than a Certificate of Appropriateness. Ms. Thompson wished to change the trim color from one
white to another white, the storm door and the shingles on the roof, none of which would require
a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Commission, according to regulations. Ms. Thompson
was unable to be present at today's meeting. Mr. Lehrer recommended that the Commission
could approve a Certificate of Non-Applicability or return at another time with the correct
documentation. However, Ms. Thompson had provided all of the necessary information. Mr.
Lehrer stated that the Certificate of Appropriateness presented a larger area of review, and
cautioned against voting for a Certificate of Appropriateness when it was the Certificate of Non-
Applicability that was needed. Mr. Hyde stated that the description described changing the trim
from yellow to white and the shingles and suggested that improvements would be an upgrade.
Mr. Lehrer concluded that the Commission could endorse the applicant's proposal for a
Certificate of Appropriateness or have the applicant return with an application for a Certificate of
Non-Applicability.
MOTION: Mr. Hyde made a motion to endorse the application from Harriet Thomson for
a Certificate of Appropriateness, endorsing the modifications to the building. Mr.
Balzarini seconded the motion. All voted unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES April 17,2018
MOTION: Mr. Hyde made a motion to accept the minutes of April 17"1,2018, as printed.
Mr. Balzarini seconded the motion. All voted unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS
Commission Vacancy-It was noted that Jessie Baird had resigned so there would be an
opening on the Commission. In addition, Ms. Baird served as the Vice Chair for the
Commission. Mr. Lehrer stated that the vacancy would be posted by the Board of Selectmen.
Once the Board receives a letter of interest, it would be shared with the Commission, to make
their recommendation. Mr. Hyde expressed his interest in serving as Vice Chair and suggested
revisiting the issue at the next meeting. There was consensus from the Commission to discuss
the issue at the next meeting.
3
