Minutes of Meeting
Design Review Committee
Tuesday,March 3,2020
Mashpee Town Hall Waquoit Meeting Room
Charlie asked if there will be new posts installed, is the sign over 20 sq. ft., and if he
planned on going to the Zoning Board of Appeals for approval. Randy said that he would
like to install all new posts and material. He would like to have a little larger sign and
would like to share the message that they are a Generac dealer which is a smaller sign
below his logo.
Jonathan asked if the size of the sign is the same or smaller. Randy said it's almost the
same size in height, width, and depth.
Joe asked if the sign will be carved out of a wood material. Mike Day said it is made out
of sign board and will be carved.
Charlie wanted confirmation that the measurement was made from the outside of the posts
across which is 84". It is over 27 sq. ft. and the maximum allowed is 20 sq. ft.
Miles said he thinks the sign looks better without the Generac sign. He likes the color
combination.
Jonathan asked if the Generac sign can be placed on the building. Randy said he would
prefer not to. Jonathan asked if there is any way to get the size within the 20 sq. ft. Mike
said that the sign would be hard to read if the size is cut by 50%.Jonathan thought he would
require variance relief from the ZBA.
Charlie suggested this application be submitted to the ZBA for a Special Permit because
the applicant is requesting over 20 sq. ft., and the bylaw allows up to 40 sq. ft.
Miles thought that the sign could be designed without the"Generac"wording and believes
there's plenty of space within the sign area. He said that the RCA wording looks nice, but
the Generac;word looks contrasting. Randy said he would prefer to have the sign separate
in case he decides not be a Generac dealer. Randy said he would like to propose to remove
the Generac portion completely, and then later ask the ZBA for permission to add it. He
said he is having an open house in May and would like to have a sign in place.
Jonathan thought that would be a better idea. Charlie said he would like to see the
dimensions of the outside part of the posts. The number(street address)portion on the sign
is a requirement, and in his opinion should not be counted as part of the square footage.
Jonathan suggested to find out what the other businesses have for signs and present that to
the ZBA.
a
Charlie wanted to know the dimensions of the outside of the posts of just the RCA portion.
Mike said that they are 6"posts, and the measurement is 84".
2
