ADA Meeting Minutes <br /> Thursday October 17, 2019 <br /> Waquoit Meeting Room, Town Hall <br /> Present: Sidney Davis, Charles Maintanis, Jamie Curley. Also in attendance was Jean Bowden, a <br /> Mashpee resident who expressed interest in serving on the committee. <br /> A meeting of the Mashpee Town AD committee was called to order at 2:15 pm on October 17, <br /> 2019 by Jaime Curley and seconded by Sidney Davis <br /> A motion was made by Sidney Davis and seconded by Jaime Curley to accept the minutes of the <br /> August 15, 2019 minutes. <br /> Charles Maintanis invited Ms Bowden to introduce herself to the committee and give a brief <br /> resume of her activities as a special needs advocate along with her other interests in the <br /> community. A motion was then made by Jaime Curley and seconded by Sidney Davis to <br /> recommend her to the Board of Selectman for a position on the ADA committee. <br /> Under old business Jaime Curley presented her findings regarding how Cape communities deal <br /> with their ADA activities on their town web sites. She noted that surrounding towns had a <br /> variety of approaches regarding the listing of members, contact information accessible <br /> locations . There was also a discussion of the varied approaches by Cape towns regarding <br /> whether the ADA activities are conducted as a committee or commission. Charles Maintanis <br /> explained the difference. Jaime also noted that some Chambers of Commerce published <br /> handbooks designated handicap friendly areas and Charles Maintanis volunteered to check <br /> with the Mashpee Chamber to see if any information of this type had been published in the <br /> past. There was also a discussion on the timing of meetings by other towns and it was pointed <br /> out that again, it was a varied approach ranging from monthly and bi-monthly to "as needed". <br /> Also under old business Charles Maintanis led a discussion on the re-organization of the <br /> committee. it was decided not to vote on the election of officers until additional members <br /> were appointed. However the parameters of the committee will range from 5 to 9 members <br /> consisting of three town employees including the town ADA Compliance Officer, a <br /> representative of the Mashpee schools and from the town building department . The <br /> remaining members, ranging from two to six individuals will be town residents. There was also <br /> a discussion on whether the town officials would act in an advisory capacity or as voting <br /> members.This will be determined when the reorganization is completed. <br />
