*DRAFT BOARD OF SELECTMEN MINUTES* APRIL 16, 2020* 3
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
April 16, 2020
NEW BUSINESS
Discussion and-Approyal of Post onement of the Annual Town Election Pursuant to and in Accordance
with Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020:
A procedural question was discussed regarding Annual Town Election as it relates to the terms of the
respective boards and committees on the warrant to ensure the three-year terms are not violated. Under
M.G.L. Chapter 44 §20 as described in the Governor's declaration of a state emergency, a delay would
override the bylaws to continue the terms of the incumbents until the election, thus shortening the term of
those elected from May 19, 2020 to the effective date of June 23, 2020. This is a special allowance
authorized by the Governor and confirmed by Town Counsel. There is no requirement to act under the
local level of authority.
Motion made by Selectman O'Hara to move that the Board vote pursuant to and in accordance with
Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020 to postpone the Annual Town Election from May 19, 2020 to June 23, -
2020 and to establish the time for the opening and closing of the polls under the provisions of G.L. c
54 §§24 and 64 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. respectively.
Motion seconded by Selectman Sherman,
VOTE: Unanimous. 5^0
Roll Call vote:
Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes
Selectman Sherman, yes Selectman Weeden, yes opposed, none
Discussion and ADDroval of Town of Mash ee Annual Election warrant:
The Board of Selectmen reviewed the Annual Election Warrant and motioned as follows;
Motion, made by Selectman Sherman to approve and execute the Town of Mashpee Annual
Election warrant as presented on the amended date of Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at the Quashnet
School, 150 old Barnstable Road, Mashpee from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton,
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes
Selectman Sherman, yes Selectman Weeden, yes opposed, none
3
