Contact with Other Committees-The Chair has reached out to the other committees and <br /> organizations about reconnecting in the future. One recommendation, from the Woods Hole group, <br /> recommended a google platform to connect. The representative from Falmouth's Affirmative Action <br /> Committee, has changed. <br /> Human Rights Club Update-The Chair reported that she continued to stay in contact with Ms. <br /> Purdy, regarding potential virtual meetings and discussion about Diversity Day. Ms. Purdy may <br /> connect with Mr. Balser regarding Senior Seminar. <br /> Conversations-The Chair discussed the possibility of inviting the community to talk with the <br /> Committee and followed up with the Enterprise to discuss the matter further. The Chair learned of a <br /> resident becoming more familiar with racial issues, who expressed interest in learning more about the <br /> Tribe. The Chair suggested the possibility of connecting this resident to a member of the Tribe, who <br /> would be the same age and gender, in order to initiate a cross cultural dialogue and opportunity to <br /> share personal stories, culture and traditions. Ms. Johnson-Graham indicated that she could <br /> recommend a member of the Tribe who would be interested. If the conversation worked out well, the <br /> Chair suggested the possibility of expanding the concept,potentially offering it on Mashpee TV. Ms. <br /> Johnson-Graham suggested the possibility of developing a cultural panel at some point, in order to <br /> create a dialogue. <br /> Member Sharing-The Chair reported that she was part of a book club that was addressing <br /> racism. Ms. Hendricks added that she was also reading Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird <br /> Sings." <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Recruitment for Open Position-The Chair reported that she would like to have the <br /> Committee's vacancy filled with an African American member and has reached out to the NAACP to <br /> seek out any interested parties. Ms. Johnson-Graham noted that she knew of someone who may be <br /> interested, a professor at UMass, and would like to reach out. The Chair indicated that interested <br /> potential members should submit a letter of interest to the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Potential Invitation to Chief Carline-The Chair inquired whether the Committee wished to <br /> invite Chief Carlin to participate in the next meeting, given the current climate and to share the <br /> positive work the Police Department had done to solve problems in Mashpee. Ms. DeBoer expressed <br /> caution about discussing a national narrative at a local level, unless it was specifically addressing <br /> expressed Mashpee concerns. It was determined that he would be invited to discuss matters at the <br /> community level. <br /> Potential Invitation to Bill Ney, Mashpee TV-The Chair also suggested inviting Mr. Ney to <br /> the next meeting. <br /> Town Slogan-In reference to white supremacist messaging found in Town, the Chair noted <br /> prior NPFH slogan and signage present throughout the Town around 2007/2008, and suggested the <br /> possibility of developing new messaging for the Mashpee community. It was suggested to reach out to <br /> the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations in Mashpee in order to share the messaging. Mr. <br /> Fand agreed that it was a good idea. The Chair suggested that the pandemic may be bringing people <br /> together and this could be a good time to reach out and connect. Ms. DeBoer agreed that consistent <br /> messaging throughout the Town would be a good idea. <br /> 2 <br />
