11 <br />Welfare Report <br />To the Honorable Board of Selectmen: <br />The trend of increased assistance by the Federal Govern- <br />ment to the State for aid in the financing of the Public Assist- <br />ance programs continued in 1961. <br />Effective in August the Department of Health, Welfare <br />and Education increased the grants to the States for Old <br />Age Assistance and Disability Assistance by $ 30 per person <br />per month and increased the minimum payments for Old Age <br />and Disability Benefits from $30.00 to $40.00 per month. <br />The year 1961 is the first complete year in which the <br />new program of Medical Assistance for the Aged has been in <br />effect. In Mashpee two persons were assisted in this program <br />at a total cost of $2,958.15. The Federal share of this expendi- <br />ture is $1,389.10 as compared to the $586.00 which would have <br />been the Federal grant before this legislation became effective. <br />As compared to 1960, this year our expenditures in Old <br />Age Assistance decreased $4,138.14 to $12,010.30; in Aid to <br />Dependent Children decreased $2,621.24 to $10,235.84; in <br />General Relief decreased $1,024.36 to $3,730.39; the expendi- <br />tures for Medical Assistance for the Aged increased $2,472.60 <br />to $2,958.15, Disability Assistance increased $3,788.68 to <br />$8,629.20 and the Administrative expenditures increased <br />$815.49 to $3,353.51. Our total expenditures of $40,917.39 was <br />$687.97 less than in 1960. <br />During the year we made three recoveries totalling $910.65 <br />from persons whe were extended General Relief as a result of <br />unemployment resulting from accidents. The recoveries were <br />effected through the insurance companies. <br />The expenditures with Federal, State and local shares are <br />as follows: <br />
