The
legal settlement method of allocating the financial respon-
sibility has been in effect, with many amendments, since
colonial times and has become archaic.
Under the new system the Commonwealth will reimburse
the cities and towns a minimum of 20% for all General
Relief expenditures, and will reimburse 70% of Old Age
Assistance payments after the Federal Grants are deducted.
At the close of the year we are extending assistance to
15 Old Age Assistance; 2 Medical Assistance for the Aged;
5 Aid to Dependent Children; and 7 Disability Assistance
cases; totaling a caseload of 29 cases. We currently have
no families receiving General Relief.
We express our thanks for the cooperation of the
Selectmen, and the Town Accountant and the Town Nurse,
Mrs. Ida D. O'Brien continues her services as Social
Worker and her assistance and efficiency is acknowledged.
Respectfully submitted,
JOHN P. GRANT
Welfare Agent in Mashpee
Gen. Laws, Ch. 283, Acts of 1951
