11
Report of the Board of Health
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of Mashpee:
The Board of Health hereby submits their Annual Re-
port for the year, nineteen hundred and sixty-eight.
This year has presented a number of problems in this
Department, one of the most serious ones is the inadequate
salary to the Agent, who is one of the most important mem-
bers on the Board. His untiring effort to keep up the many
inspections necessary to enforce the Sanitary Code is .almost
a volunteer job considering his salary of $250.00 a year.
For this salary he has inspected 122 Sanitation systems,
not to mention the re-inspections if the systems are not com-
plete and do not comply with the Code. He keeps a constant
check on the eating establishments in the Town, camps and
Trailer Parks and tries to answer numerous complaints, such
as"My neighbor's cesspool is contaminating our well." Usual-
ly this derives from the complaintant not abiding by the
Sanitary Code in earlier years, before we had such a con-
scientious Agent as Mr. Hendricks.
Our Dental program has not been as successful gas it has
been in the past. This is mostly due to a transportation prob-
lem and the distance the pupils have to travel. Steps are be-
ing taken to possibly have this work done at Dr. Zeigler's of-
fice at the Mashpee Rotary or -at least have him assist us in
finding an answer to this problem. Our dental equipment at
the school presents a financial problem, but it may become
necessary to complete the system and hire a dentist to do the
dental work at the School.
We have pondered with the idea of putting the upkeep
of the Disposal Area out for bids. This is one of the biggest
problems of the whole Cape and we have been meeting with
the various Towns in an attempt to find an answer.
