10 <br /> Report of the Board of Selectmen <br /> Again this year as in the past, despite increasing build- <br /> ing costs and the economic situation, building construction <br /> 1 continued at a vigorous pace with $1,760,000.00 in new con- <br /> struction this year down $40,004.00 from 1969. <br /> EI r <br /> New developments with building activity created this <br /> year include South Cape Beach Estates, Quail Hollow Village <br /> Ili and Ockway Bay Estates. We extend our hand of welcome <br /> to the new inhabitants of these and all other developments <br /> who have found Mashpee an attractive community in which <br /> to live. <br /> The Town has acquired the services of a professional <br /> j planning consultant to advise in the growth pattern, land <br /> f, use, land requirements, and municipal needs of the future. <br /> It is our hope that these recommendations along with those <br /> "I of the Planning Board will be presented to the Town in the <br /> near future. <br /> The new Mashpee Telephone Exchange and Relay Sta- <br /> tion has been completed with a target date for full operation <br /> of 4 April 1971. This project will for the inhabitants of <br /> Mashpee greatly increase our local dialing services, which <br /> will include toll free calls to such areas as Bourne,Sagamore, <br /> L, Sandwich, Cataumet, Falmouth, Osterville and Hyannis. <br /> Chapter 81 Highway Projects have been completed; street <br /> lights installed on public roads as requested. And our Christ- <br /> mas lights were displayed as usual at the Mashpee Rotary <br /> Circle. <br /> I <br /> During the past year a new police cruiser and fire engine <br /> were purchased for the respective departments. <br /> We will again this year ask the townspeople to appro- <br /> priate $30,000.00 for the stabilization fund to help finance <br /> '1 our future municipal needs. <br /> We wish to express our thanks to the members of the <br /> Centennial and Historic Commissions for their efforts on <br /> their respective projects and the success of our Centennial <br /> celebration. <br />
