3
e
I
f
MR. and MRS. LEO C. HOUSTON
DEDICATION
Since making Mash-pee their permanent home, Gracie
and Leo have given dedicated service to all.
Gracie became the Town's first secretary to the Select-
men, serving twelve years and several selectmen. At first,
the position only required a few hours a week, but gradually
this transcended to an all consuming full-time job. During
this transition the title of Administrative Assistant to the
Board of Selectmen was created and held by Gracie until
November of 1973. Never did Gracie refuse a call from any-
one for help. Her services were never ending.
Leo served as a member of the Board of Appeals, Planning
Board and the Municipal Needs Committee when they were
first created. He enjoyed his appointments as Harbormaster,
later as Assistant Harbormaster; Shellfish Constable, then
Deputy Shellfish Constable in the area of Popponesset Bay
near their home. Last, but not least, he was a member of
the School Committee, a post he held for nineteen years.
Retirement is enjoyed by both Grace and Leo with
their family on Mashpee Neck Road. They are leaving us
With a firmer foundation from which our Town will grow in
strength.
