MASHPEE CULTURAL COUNCIL <br /> MINUTES OCTOBER 8, 2020 via Zoom <br /> PRESENT: Nina Cocomazzi, David Egel, MaryKate O'Brien, Mary Alice Stahleker, Bill Nay, Andrea Watson, Winnie <br /> Graham.Visitor:Janet Wright <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order by N. Cocomazzi at 3:07 pm. MK noted that there was no one in the Zoom waiting <br /> room; she will monitor it for any visitors. Quorum declared. <br /> INTERVIEW OF POTENTIAL COUNCIL MEMBER <br /> N Cocomazzi introduced Janet Wright who presented her background and interest in serving on the Council. She and <br /> her husband moved to Mashpee in 2013 following her career in Walpole as an elementary and early childhood teacher. <br /> They have both been active in the Cotuit Center for the Arts and she serves on the Volunteer Advisory Committee. She <br /> has coordinated the Read to Me at KCC program at K.C. Coombs School and serves on the Board of Directors of Cape <br /> Cod Rowing club in Centerville. Her time is such now that she feels she can dedicate the time needed for the Council. <br /> Because of her connections with Cotuit Center and familiarity with the application process, she feels it would be a good <br /> fit. <br /> On motion by B. Nay, seconded by MK O'Brien, it was unanimously VOTED to recommend to the Board of Selectmen the <br /> appointment of Janet Wright to the Cultural Council.A. Watson will notify the Board and make necessary arrangements. <br /> Ms. Wright was invited to stay in the meeting and A Watson took the chair. <br /> MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the August 13, 2020 meeting were unanimously APPROVED on motion by D. Egel, seconded by <br /> W. Graham. <br /> TREASURER'S REPORT <br /> N. Cocomazzi reviewed the grant status. There were 17 applications, 12 accepted, 5 denied for a total grant amount of <br /> $5,862. $1,886.19 has thus far been paid; $1,028 has been cancelled due to COVID; $350 extended to FY 21 and $2,483 <br /> is still open,waiting to hear from recipients. Deadline for this year's spending is December 12; if not used, it will be <br /> available for FY 2021. It is not known whether the funds will be encumbered or unencumbered. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Application period is October 1-November 16. Panel book will be received December 1. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> To publicize the availability of funding, A Watson will prepare a press release appropriate to all media. She will send to <br /> newspapers; W Graham will deliver as a PSA to radio stations; B Nay will put as a PSA on Mashpee TV <br /> NEXT MEETING <br /> The next meeting will be via Zoom on December 9 at 10:00 am with a second meeting date of December 16 at <br /> 3:00 pm, if needed. <br /> ADJOURN <br /> On motion by B. Nay, seconded by D Egel, the meeting adjourned at 3:55 pm. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Mary Alice Stahleker, Secretary <br /> Note; Following this meeting, the application deadline was extended by Mass Cultural Council to December 14, <br /> 2020. The meetings of December 9 and December 16 were cancelled. New meetings set for January 13 & 14, <br /> 2021. <br />
