29
Report of the Civil Defense Director
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts
Gentlemen:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending Decem-
ber 31, 1954.
I would like the citizens of the Town.to know that during
Hurricane Carol and Edna the Civil Defense personnel, the
Police, Highway and Fire Departments showed a splendid
1 example of what can be done in any emergency. There was
no loss of life and very few injuries were reported. The power
failure during the storms left the town without sufficient
i drinking water for approximately one week. The Fire Depart-
ment supplied water where possible by the means of a small
generator. It has been suggested ,that the Civil Defense
De-partment be provided with a generator large enough to operate
the water pump and lights at either the Town Hall or the
Samuel Davis School for such an emergency.
I wish to express my thanks to the Board of Selectmen
and all Departments mentioned in my report, also to the
Mashpee American Legion Auxiliary members for their as-
i
sistance in both disasters.
Respectfully submitted,
ELLSWORTH PETERS
Civil Defense Director
