8
I '
Selectmen's Report
To the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
The Board of Selectmen respectfully submit this report
for the year ending December 31, 1956.
We are pleased to report that the Town is in excellent
financial standing and the valuation steadily increasing.
The population has grown and many homes have been built
by permanent as well as summer residents.
Good roads, the natural beauty of the woodlands and al-
luring sea shore still attract many visitors. The prospect of
further development of recreational and industrial facilities
is good.
A bill has been filed in the Legislature requesting the
State to take South Cape Beach as a State Beach and the
Selectmen have petitioned the State to assist in financing
the dredging of Great River and Popponesset Creek. These
projects will furnish us with a harbor or basin for small boats
and encourage vacationers to our shores.
A sea wall will be built at Popponesset and the causeway
over the marsh leading to Monomoscoy has been completed
1 at no cost to the town.
j' The proposed relocation of Route 130 is still under study
by the U. S. Dept. of Commerce, Bureau of Public Roads.
Upon completion of this study, we will be in a position to ad-
vise you more definitely.
The Highway Dept. has done an excellent job on the
Chapter 90 and 81 projects. The new motor grader has been
of great value on road work as well as snow removal.
h
1
1
