Our valua- s
tion has increased considerably, due mainly to the construc-
tion of many new homes these past few years, both summer p
and year around. Many people have found Mashpee a desir- p
able place to live and retire to. The excellent natural environ-
ment and the inviting tax rate has made this desirability
possible. is
l rE
Our Chapter 81 and 90 highway contracts were made tf
with the Department of Public Works, and the projects were
completed according to schedule. Great Neck Road which
j
has been a major project for several years, has been com-
pleted. We petitioned the County Commission to lay out the
Cotuit-Wakeby Road as our next Chapter 90, project, and the
i
new construction has been started. Overall our highway
projects have been quite successful and the roads have been
kept in excellent condition. A new addition to our Highway
Department was the construction of our new Municipal
Garage. The contract was let and the garage erected accord-
ing to specifications. We are now able to keep all of our
highway equipment and stock in our central place.
New street lights were petitioned for with the Cape and
Vineyard Electric Co., as authorized by the annual Town
{ Meeting, and all the installations were made.
The Department of Public Works had a great sea wall
constructed at Popponessett Beach, which greatly improves
a section of the beach and also, protects the high banks in
{ that area, which were being washed away rapidly.
