9
Report of the Board of Selectmen
To the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
We, the Board of Selectmen, wish to submit the following
report for the year ending December 31, 1958.
Another year has passed and we find our town in excel-
lent financial condition. New construction is proceeding along
at a rapid pace in several areas of our town. More people have
found that Mashpee is one of the most desireable places to
spend their summers and to live the year around.
Much progress has been made these past years and more
is due to come. Growth and progress we must face. This calls
for greater and more expenditures, but our revenue is also
increasing correspondingly. Our services have expanded yet
our tax rates have held reasonably steady,-and low in compar-
ison with the rest of the cities and towns.
Our Fire Department is very well equipped and manned,
also, our Police Department, with the exception of a police
station. We :must consider a new building, -or an addition of
a room on one of our existing structures for a station in the
near future.
Bids were requested and advertised, and a contract was
awarded to Granite Chevrolet Co. of Hyannis as low bidder,
according to specifications, for a new 1959 station wagon, to be
used as a combination cruiser and emergency vehicle. The
new cruiser was a badly needed.piece of equipment, as the
traded in vehicle was constantly breaking down, and main-
tenance and repairs were becoming too costly. The new
cruiser has already shown its worth.
The Cape and Vineyard Electric Co. was petitioned for
new street lights, as authorized by the Annual Town Meeting.
