• The Selectmen support the Tribal Council's plans for a tourist attraction along the Mashpee River corridor. • The Board of Selectmen continue to support eco- nomic development and applaud the efforts of the Economic Development Committee. The Selectmen are also working cooperatively with the Chamber of Commerce, the Conservation Commission and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council by encouraging activities associated with "green" tourism. The new enhanced 911 (E-911) system for emer- gency police, fire and rescue calls became opera- tional. • Mashpee was named a World War II Commemorative Community by the United States Department of Defense and participated in � a number of activities recognizing the triumphs �II � and sacrifices of World War IL • The annual Flag Day Parade was held in con- junction with the Mashpee Post VFW. • The Board of Selectmen continue to share con- cern regarding the underground contamination emanating from the Massachusetts Military j Reservation. We now have Selectmen repre- sentation, along with the Boards of Selectmen from Bourne, Falmouth and Sandwich, on senior management board overseeing the clean-up activity. • The Selectmen have entered into an inter- municipal agreement with the Town of Sandwich to construct and operate a regional septage treatment plant to be located on the Massachusetts Military Reservation. • A major change will take place in the Board of l Selectmen this May, as Selectmen Judy Mills and Jim Vaccaro are both retiring. �. 7 The Board of Selectmen extends its heartfelt thanks to those who have participated in town government ents who have not get and encourages resid ` involved.
