Library Statutory Spending Minimum.
When the May Town Meeting approved the increase in the hours of the children's librarian from
a part-time to a full-time position,
funds were approved for the increased salary and benefits, but
no funds were included to fund the additional amount necessary to maintain the 16% of
operating expenses for the purchase of books as required by the MA Board of Library
Commissioners for a municipality to qualify for state library assistance. Approval is requested to
appropriate $5,516 to maintain the proper funding level.
While the Finance Committee would prefer to have had this appropriation initially be a part of
the FY 07 budget Article, or in the alternative, be included as a part of the FY 08 Library budget,
it seems prudent to maintain the proper funding levels now so as not to jeopardize current or
future state Library funding.
THE FINANCE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS TOWN MEETING APPROVAL OF
I ARTICLE 7.
I
Article 8.
