Explanation-, The fish ladder currently in place is only a temporary one, put in by the Division <br /> of Marine Fisheries (the previous one was vandalized). The water control structure needs to be <br /> completely replaced as it is in serious disrepair and barely functional. Additionally, its current <br /> configuration is not conducive for <br /> Herring passage. The $60,000 would pay for design, materials and installation. <br /> Recommendation: The Finance Committee recommends approval. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor. <br /> Motion: Imove the Town vote to appropriate and transfer $60,000 from the Cranberry Reserved <br /> Receipts Account to the John's Pond Water Control Structure Account. <br /> Motion passes unanimously at 8:16 p.m. <br /> Article 23 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to accept Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 80 Section 13B, <br /> which governs deferral of payment of special assessments (betterments) for property owners who <br /> receive a tax exemption under M.G.L. Chapter 59 Section 5 Clause 41A; or take any other action <br /> relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Board of Assessors <br /> Explanation: This article will allow the Town of Mashpee to defer betterment payments for <br /> senior taxpayers who defer their general tax payments. The Water District has already adopted <br /> this statute. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane. <br /> Motion: I move Article 23 be voted as printed in the warrant with the exception of the phrase, <br /> "or take any other action relating thereto". <br /> Motion passes at 8:18 p.m. <br /> Article 24 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to appropriate $850,000 for unanticipated costs related to the <br /> acquisition of land for the new Mashpee High School, including appraisals and other costs <br /> incidental or related thereto, and to determine whether to raise said supplemental appropriation <br /> by borrowing, transferring available funds or otherwise, or take any other action relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Board of Selectmen <br /> Explanation,,* This article proposes to appropriate $850,000 to pay for unanticipated land <br /> acquisition costs for the Mashpee High School complex. The original appropriation for project <br /> land acquisition costs was based upon appraisals of the various parcels of land comprising the <br /> Mashpee High School tract prepared in 1994, prior to the actual eminent domain taking of the <br />
