3
Special Town Meeting August 4, 1971
Article 7 Gtd®
Floor: How long can, this contract last?
Mr® Shea, Accountant : As far as t-he terminating date is concerned
I know of none® A reasonable time will be given, I believe® It ,
is up to HUD® 41
Floor: I reiterate, I am worried about a terminal date® I are worried
that at the end of a certain time we will no longer be eligible for
these matching funds. ® ® ® I am worried because we do not know how
Much it will cost. . . .the other question I ask Kevin® ® ® ® ®
(Here several persons started to interlope. —Ehrisman® ® ® ®Be°cnway® ® . .
Kevin® ® ® ® . .
s In the first- place , the Federal Government seat people to
Town to look over the building. The Federal Go<<=ern rnt sent their
people into this town and they went down and inspected. An esti_®
mate of $28,000 was givens after inspecting all the ramifications
of what had to be done, and the Federal Government will not agree
to give one cent if they feel it is not worth it® This job will
not require just money. This is a project that demands the interest
of the townspeople and their full cooperation® Has anybody offered
to come up for a few hours and weild a paint brush? How many men
get a Saturday off? I ' ll go up with you and work® This is some-
thing to improve your Td ® to preserve its history and traditions®
Don't sell it short and throw it down! (Long applause® )
Homeyer® I think too much of these decisions have been left to
people who don't know a thing about buildings. The Town should
appoint a committee to look into this who understands what it is
all about and not a bunch of amateurs who don't know a termite
from an ant®
Floor® I would lake to suggest such a committee be appointed
and that Mr® Homeye- be ,-made chairman of this committee®
Denway: I move the Town raise and appropriate $6500 for the repair
of the Avant House and appoint Mr. Homeyer as Advisory in this
regard® Seconded®
Here Ehrisman interposes main to give his opinion as to who and
what the committee should consist o .
Homeyer stated he would like to be stare the people he might
have to work with would be ones who would give the town its
"money's worth". ® ® ®he hoped no inactive committee who wouldn't
play ball would be appointed® ® ® ® ® ® ® the Moderator here interposed
to say that anything else added would have to be in the form
of an amendment - to which Homeyer replied "does this mean
I 've got to serve with a bunch of women?" ®®laughter and applause®
Moderator ® At this point ® I don ' t know.
Homeyer® I would like to have some of the committee b&:people
who know about these things , to work with one®
Benway® I would like to assure Mr® Homeyer of utmost cooperation
in all ways® All opinions will be welcome , but I would like to
see the article voted as moved and seconded®
SO VOTED®
