Lll_ still require funds with which to work. 1 don' t
think, he said, that we have the answers as to just what
funds will be needed®
Mrs. Aikens here arose and took exception to some of the
things Mr® Garland d said® She also wanted to inquire about
whether or not larger barrels could not be placed in the area
of South. Cape Beach to take care of the trash in a more efficient
manner. She also stated that she felt that the general public
like herself would certainly feel much more safe in the area
and using the beaches if the proper lifeguards were stationed
there ®.
Another woman arose from the rear of the audience and said
that she had been to South Cape Beach and that there were over
fifty cars there , and so far as she could see hers was the only
one with the proper sticker.
George Green Jr. a present member of the Park. and Rec-
reation Commission arose to state his objection to the cutting
of the budget. He spoke about the remark that had been made
about a lifeguard on a blanket. He spoke also about the un-
reasonableness of expecting someone to parade the beach and
stand up the entire period of their tour of duty® He said that it
was unreasonable to expect a lifeguard to be highly visible
at all. times , as indeed he should be , if no DrOVISion had
been grade to keep him so® He said that the lifeguards should
have a tower with proper shelter from the sun so that he could
4
be in a position so people could see hire at all times. He
stated that no money had ever been appropriated, nor instructions
given for this type of thing, and so it was not the lifeguards
fault if he were not at all times highly visible®
A motion was made .from the floor that item 100, 101 , and
102 under recreation be raised and appropriated as recommended®
The motion was seconded, and. it was so gated.
The next "hold" was wider American Legion Post ® The person I
who asked for the hold changed their minds , asked that this j
be disregarded.
i
