Town Seal Committee Minutes February 25, 2021 *APPROVED* March 11, 2021 VIA ZOOM Present: Chair David Weeden,Theresa Cook, Patricia DeBoer, Evan Lehrer, Kathleen Mahoney, Brian Weeden (Joined the meeting at 5:10 pm) Absent: Joan Avant-Tavares Meeting Called to Order by Chairman David Weeden at 5:04 pm VIA ZOOM MINUTES Approval of the following:Thursday February 11, 2021 Motion made by Mr. Lehrer to approve the minutes of the February 11, 2021 meeting. Communication from Carol McLeod of Carol McLeod Design was shared with the Committee with regard to the firm's interest in the Town Seal project. NEW BUSINESS: OLD BUSINESS: Discussion and Approval of a Town Seal Survey Discussion and Approval of Distribution and Time Period of a Town Seal Survey The above two items were discussed simultaneously. Discussion surrounded the "Draft" survey that had been prepared by Mr. Lehrer as it appears below: Town SeaCCommittee Mashpee Town Seal Redesign Community Survey The Town Seal Committee was established by the Board of Selectmen following the May 2019 Town Meeting upon successful petition to redesign the Mashpee Town Seal. Today's Town Seal is not reflective of Mashpee's history or and is seen as a symbol reflective of the genocide of Native People. The Town Seal Committee, in order to propose an updated design that recognizes and honors the Town's history, its culture, and that which makes Mashpee unique, seeks your input. Please choose your top three (3) priorities from the list below as the most important symbols to depict on the new Mashpee Town Seal. Please elaborate on your choices using the space provide on page 2.
