<br />Mashpee Waterways Commission <br />Minutes of the March 11th, 2014 Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />Chairman Ken Bates called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM at the Mashpee Town Hall in <br />the Ockway Meeting Room. <br /> <br />Present: Ken Bates, Bill Taylor, Tim Leedham and Al Wickel <br /> <br />Absent: Paul Zammito, Don MacDonald and Steve Pinard <br /> <br />Also present: Mashpee Harbormaster Stephen Mone <br /> <br />Communications and Correspondence: <br />Ken Bates circulated current mail and correspondence that included information showing <br />“Save Popponesset Bay” organization financially supporting the removal of 100 cubic yards <br />of material that were identified by the before dredge survey. <br />Also reviewed were documents pertaining to future dredge permitting processes going <br />forward prepared by the Army Corps of Engineers. Chairman Bates discussed how these <br />procedures were going to have an impact on the comprehensive permit process. <br /> <br />Harbormaster Report: <br />Stephen Mone reported that all was quiet. He did share with the Commission that there <br />were numerous complaints on the water depth of the channel entering Great River from <br />Waquoit Bay. The extension form Great River out through Waquoit Bay towards the center <br />channel is shifting towards the north and filling in. He recommends a maintenance dredge <br />review be accomplished as soon as possible due to the amount for traffic that utilizes these <br />waterways. Mr. Bates will review the post dredge survey of the channel. <br /> <br />Shellfish Constable Report: <br /> <br />Mashpee Wakeby Report: <br />Bill Taylor said all was quiet on the Lake <br /> <br />Public Access Update: <br />AL Wickel reported he was meeting with the Falmouth Harbormaster following the <br />Waterways meeting to review the plans that were in place for the public access, pier, ramp <br />and float system on Child’s River in East Falmouth. Information he hoped would provide <br />guidance to the team that was preparing plans for the upgrades at Mashpee’s Great River <br />boat ramp. <br /> <br />Popponesset Bay /Waquoit Bay report: <br />Stephen Mone also reported on the narrowing of the entrance into Popponesset Bay form <br />Vineyard Sound. “The spit is spreading eastward and severely narrowing the channel” Mr. <br />Mone said. He was also concerned about the culvert drain under the Seconsett Island <br /> <br />
