11 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> May 24, 2021 <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Discussion and Approval of Letter of Support of the Chatham Coast Guard Station: <br /> The Board of Selectmen discussed the concerns of the Town of Chatham regarding the Coast Guard's decision to <br /> downgrade the operational capabilities and resources of the Small Boat Station, Chatham. This includes the status <br /> from Surf Station to Heavy Weather Station and the replacement of the surf capable 42-foot Near-shore Lifeboats <br /> with 45-foot Response Boat Medium limited to 8' seas and 30 knots of wind, no surf. It was agreed the Town of <br /> Mashpee would support the Town of Chatham. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to authorize the Town Manager to submit the draft letter to Admiral <br /> Allan on behalf of the Board of Selectmen with respect to this concern. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman, yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Weeden, yes Opposed, none <br /> Discussion Relative to the Grant Process: Town Manager Rodney Collins: <br /> Town Manager Rodney C. Collins in consultation with the Director of Recreation reviewed the possibility of <br /> offering a one-time prorated payment for supervised remote learning Kids Klub Child Care employees earning less <br /> than the minimum wage. The minimum wage is $15.50 per hour. Early education and child care services are <br /> deemed essential for return-to-work parents, Funding would derive from the Enterprise Fund, tuition-based <br /> revenue of the Kids Klub program. <br /> Discussion followed regarding the consideration to grant fund employees with salaries under$50,000 annually. <br /> This would be a one-time grant, part of the COVID-19 Relief reimbursement program specifically designated for <br /> child care workers. There is no direct cost to the Mashpee tax payer, and the grant would not affect the tax rate. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to approve the one-time grant for the Kids Klub Child Care employees <br /> earning $50,000 or less in annual income. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Weeden. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman, yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br /> LIAISON REPORTS <br /> FDIC: The FDIC recently met with Affordable Housing Committee and will be seeking funding from the <br /> Affordable Housing Trust to develop 108 Commercial Street for workforce housing. <br /> Town Seal Committee: The Town Seal Committee is moving forward with designs for the new Town Seal, <br />
