6 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> May 24, 2021 <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> Discussion of Pickleball Courts: Earnest Barrows: <br /> Ermest Barrows discussed his ongoing concern regarding the Pickleball Courts. Mr. Barrows indicated the noise <br /> level has not changed. It has been nearly three years, and the noise is getting louder. He suggested the Town <br /> consider enclosing the courts to mitigate the sound. <br /> The Board of Selectmen in dismay indicated the Town has been receptive to the concerns of Mr. Barrows, and has <br /> made several good faith attempts to mitigate the sound emanating from the Pickleball Courts, This includes the <br /> installation of a sound barrier, increasing the vegetation buffer and reducing the hours of operation. <br /> The mitigation measures were obtained from a study in the Town of Punta Gorda,Florida referenced by Mr. <br /> Barrows to assist in the mitigation of the sound. The Town's Recreation Director has been involved in the <br /> improvements to lessen the noise impacts to the neighbor of reference, It was agreed results of the study and <br /> documents associated to the improvements would be forwarded to Mr. Barrows for additional review. <br /> It was noted there was a recent incident of fireworks in the neighborhood. Mr. Barrows did not offer comment with <br /> respect to this regard. <br /> Discussion and Approval of the Following Special Event Applications, Tempora!y Sign Permits, One-Da y Liquor <br /> Licenses: <br /> Racewire Annual Beach and Back Half Marathon and 5K: Sundqy, August 29, 2021: 7:30 am— I pm: John <br /> Adams: <br /> The Board of Selectmen met with John Adams to review the Special Event Application, Temporary Sign Permit <br /> and One Day Liquor License for the Annual Beach and Back Half Marathon and 5k hosted by Racewire. <br /> The event is planned on Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. <br /> The marathon will begin and end at the intersection of Donna's Lane and Great Neck Road South. Mile marker <br /> signs 23"06" would be placed along the race route. A post-race celebration will follow the conclusion of the race <br /> at Masbpee Commons. It is estimated that 1,000 runners will participate in this event. <br /> All necessary approvals have been obtained from regulatory officials for the 4"'annual event. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to approve the Special Event Application of Racewire to include a <br /> Temporary Sign Permit and One Day Liquor License for the Annual Beach and Back Half Marathon and <br /> 5k as presented. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Sherman, yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Weeden, yes Opposed, none <br />
