5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> July 12, 2021 <br /> Discussion and Approval. of Request for Recommendation to the Governor for Appointment to the Communily <br /> Advisory Council of the Environmental Management Commission-Precinct 4: Ann Shea: <br /> A letter of interest was received from Ann Shea requesting to be appointed to the Community Advisory Council <br /> of the Environmental Management Commission representing Precinct 4. Ms. Shea is well qualified for this <br /> appointment. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to recommend to Governor Baker the appointment of Ann Shea to <br /> the Community Advisory Council of the Environmental Management Commission as the Representative <br /> for Precinct 4. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Sherman, yes Selectman Weeden, yes Selectman Gottlieb, yes <br /> Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Opposed, none <br /> Discussion and Approval of Letter of Support for Tribe's Application for Broadband Service Grant: <br /> Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe TERO Officer Winona Pocknett: <br /> Correspondence was received from Brian Weeden, Chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe dated <br /> June 28, 2021 requesting support for a grant application submitted by the Tribe to implement a broadband <br /> connectivity project on reservation land in the Town of Mashpee. <br /> Cassic Jackson, secretary of the Tribe discussed the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program offered by the <br /> National Telecommunications and Information Administration. The project would support the construction of <br /> broadband infrastructure on Tribal lands to improve connectivity for those who rely on internet for schooling, <br /> work, telehealth and other programs. The application is due on September 1, 2021. <br /> It is anticipated the project would partner with Open Cape and a non-profit entity in the Town of Barnstable. <br /> The Tribe is conducting surveys to identify service gaps and Tribal homeowners to determine what exact <br /> infrastructure is needed. It is hopeful this program would enhance economic development and productivity <br /> within the Tribe. <br /> The Board of Selectmen was receptive of this opportunity and requested the Tribe consider providing the same <br /> access to Open Cape services to non-Tribal members in an effort to reduce costs. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to authorize the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen to sign a level <br /> of support when needed for the Tribe's Application for the Broadband Service Grant as identified. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0-1. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Weeden, abstained Selectman Gottlieb,yes <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Opposed, none <br />
