It would be my recommendation to take advantage of this situation and approve this unanimously. It still has t
go through many levels of approval, but it starts with the Commission.
Mr. O'Neill said he feels that it's a race against time for wetlands protection and cleaner water and we should
endorse this plan.
Mr. Weeden said he's glad the Town is willing to work with us in good faith and is in support of this.
Mr. Colombo mentioned again that he's concerned that we aren't being told which parcels are available to
choose. Rodney Collins said he'd rather provide a list for Conservation to choose from rather than dictate whi
parcels they should pick. There's nothing involved here other than being transparent. Mr. Colombo said he
would like to see the list before he votes.
Mr. O'Neill asked if we can condition an approval where we entrust the Agent to look over the list with a coup)
of Commissioners and identify what he believes would be a parcel of good value.
Agent said it's an extensive list of various parcels, it's quite a process to go through to assess, we just haven's
had time prior to this meeting.
Andrew Gottleib said he likes the suggestion of having your professional staff make a recommendation of whi
parcel has the greatest value, and you have our word that we will pursue that.
Mr. Colombo said he's seen it all and to give up Article 97 land is the ultimate step of any Conservation
Commission, and to come in at the 11th hour doesn't give him an educated view point to say yes or no.
Rodney Collins reiterated that the assumption we were operating on wasn't accurate. This wasn't intended to
deceive or bring anything in at the 11th hour, it was a mistake.
Mr. Weeden said we could establish a subcommittee to work with the Agent and staff to look at the parcels.
Mr. O'Neill said we should remember so many projects are about water quality, we need to concentrate on
cleaning our waters and move forward and condition this that we entrust the Agent and a couple commissions
to pick the best parcel that is offered. We should approve this so we can move forward. The parcel chosen v
probably have more value to the Commission.
Mr. Colombo asked if any of the parcels are contiguous with existing Conservation land, Agent answered yes.
Mr. O'Neill said we know this is a crisis and we should be part of the solution. It's important to support the tow
in this endeavor and keep this moving along after many, many years of no activity. I support this.
Motion made by Mr. Weeden to support an exchange to allow 2 acres under Article 97 land
to be given to the Town of Mashpee to be used for denitrification where a pumping station
will be constructed, in exchange the Town will give at least twice as much land back to the
Conservation Commission chosen by staff and two Commissioners.
Motion seconded by Mr. Dalton.
Vote: 4-0-1
Roll Call Vote:
Mr. Sweet, yes
Mr. Weeden, yes
Mr. Dalton, yes
Mr. O'Neill, yes
Mr. Colombo, abstained
In favor, 4; Opposed, 0; Abstentions, 1
• Alexandra Zollo: introduction - letter of interest to join Commission
Ms. Zollo introduced herself and spoke about her background and interest in joining the group.
