He said many fellow
shareholders would like to terminate their share entirely. They have long ago exhausted their time
share interest, and now feel they are paying annual maintenance fees on the units for little return. He
has been exploring ways to exit. There are two votes coming up to continue their timeshare
arrangement, one next year, and the second is some years later in this decade. Mr. Montgomery says
a majority are not interested in renewing. The first vote concerns the parcel adjacent to the current
Falmouth Road project. Mr. Montgomery would like to see the Town to acquire these. This is a
timeshare with roughly 1,500 owners, and how to sell gets complicated.
There are two positions the Town seems to favor. One is not to initiate any proposals to the parties of
interest on the site. The other is, given the complexity of ownership, to wait until at least two of these
parties agree on a proposal to dispose of the property. For example, Town officials would not want to
put themselves in the middle of a legally difficult situation.
All of this considered this could be a potentially great site for affordable housing.
1
