4
a tv
washvee IncCusion a
ndDiversttv Committee
16 Great Neck RoadWorth
.Mashyee, Massachusetts 02649
As an FYI, it was stated the budgets for FY23 will begin in September.
Mr. Klein will reach ou t to Ms. Kel i i n u i as she is in the Board for Mash pee T.V. Conversations
and interviews on Mash pee T.V. would be great.
Ms. Purdy has had these ideas from Human Rights.Abou t th ree years ago, a student
approached her saying she wanted to do something relating to the immigration experience. It
turned out to be conversations with students in the building. Why did they come? What were
some challenges?Wh at cou ld the school do to better serve them? Then it led to an education
piece as part of Diversity Day. It to rned into a presentation with old alu mn i as well. A series
of photoswith biographictext. It had been difficultto maintain overzoom, given the
pandemic. The Hall of Flags at the school represents students that have come to us from
different parts of the world. We had a gentleman who started that, then having the
biographies and pictures framed and put on the wall, put a narrative to a face. The idea that
you would have a little more information abou t th ese kids you may see around school.
Ms. Nadeau mentioned she was at Diversity Day and it was wonderful, this reminds h er of an
idea where the children interview their parents or grandparents with those questions,
especially someone who does not speak in English, and being able to feel comfortable
speaking in their native language. She mentioned in Osterville library, you take out book but
the book is a person, the concept came from Europe, it was complicated to get off the ground
but a great concept.
Mr. Ku pferman was cu riou s if th is sh ou Id be a committee.
Ms. Stevenson would like to meet with appropriate parties to presentthis idea as well as try
and identifyfunding sources. She will follow up at the next meeting re: progress.
Ms. Nadeau reiterated she would like to first meet with the librarian and the school to gain
approval. Oth erwise we wou Idn't do th is specific even t with Ms. Field. Th en th is wil I be ou r
focu s,an d th e sch ool wi I I con ti n ue with it with or with ou t th e Committee.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Klein made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:23a.m. Seconded by Ms. Nadeau.
All in favor.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 10:OOAM
6
